Funding and awards

Goal of the Program:

  • Financial support of young researchers via material and personell resources (e.g. consumables, student assistant positions, small equipment, etc.)
  • Promoting scientifc independence
  • Promoting young excellence
  • Enabling the aquisition of third-party funding

To improve teaching at the Faculty of Biology at LMU, the Committee for the Allocation of Funding from Study Grants offers financial incentives through the BioPlus program to instructors who deliver courses with above-average ratings. The goal of this measure is, on the one hand, to maintain and continuously improve the teaching offerings at a high level, and on the other, to reward existing commitment.

The LMU Munich Biology Student Council's Teaching Award has been presented for more than 30 years.

Each year, students honor faculty members who have distinguished themselves through their excellent teaching and demonstrated exceptional commitment to teaching.
Candidates can be nominated by any biology student; the winner is subsequently chosen at a meeting of the Student Council, and the award is presented at the faculty festival.
Since 2022, the Teaching Award has been endowed with €1,000 annually, thanks to a donation from Prof. Dr. Günther Heubl.

The research funding information center is a central resource for LMU researchers. It supports them (postdocs and above) in obtaining third-party funding for research projects.

With specific support programs and targeted advisory and continuing education offerings, LMU provides young researchers with optimal entry-level opportunities for academic careers.

The Contact Point for Research and Technology Transfer (KFT) initiates and maintains contacts between LMU and its economic and social environment, offering a comprehensive range of services.

The goals of this funding are to increase the proportion of women at all academic qualification levels, starting with the postdoc phase and at the respective degrees, and in particular to increase the number of women in leadership positions in research and teaching institutions, especially at professorships.
